Employee Spotlight - Safa El Koura

As part of our new blog series, we’re doing an Employee Spotlight at Wonderflow! Part of our success and growth has been mainly due to our people. So, we’re excited to feature a hardworking and long-time team member each month.

In this fun interview, we played 11 questions with Safà El Koura, a Linguistic Expert, for over eight months at our office in Trento, Italy. Born in Sicily, Italy, and from Moroccan parents, Safà grew up in Trentino, where she nurtured her passion for foreign languages and international culture. As a result, she graduated with a degree in Foreign Languages and Tourism from the University of Trento in Italy.

Safà in Sicily, Italy.

1. What motivates you to wake up and go to work?

The fact that I am in a young and dynamic environment, sharing ideas and supporting one another as a team—most of all, my wonderful colleagues.

2. What do you do at our company?

I work as a Linguistic Expert in the Consumer Electronics Vertical.

Whenever I mention my job title, people start wondering what a “Linguistic Expert” actually does. Our work consists of analyzing different types of texts, such as product reviews, internal company data (chats and emails), and possibly any other unstructured texts that interest our clients. These texts can be in various languages. So far, we have been analyzing texts in 10 different languages at Wonderflow!

Through the use of Al, we provide our clients with efficient analysis of the customer sentiment regarding certain aspects of their products or services. We also measure the accuracy of our software development through regular quality checks.

Our Linguistics team is meticulous about the work because focusing on precision or attention to detail is an inherent part of our role. In the last months, the whole team has been optimizing the company ontologies, which is already bringing excellent results.

As a Linguistic Expert, you work on different projects and languages, making our work very exciting!

3. How would your family or friends describe you in three words?

Curious, persistent, kind.

4. What are some things you cannot say “no” to?

Helping people in need, no matter the consequences. And chocolate, of course!

5. What’s the weirdest (or most interesting) job you’ve ever had in your life?

I worked at the Film Festival Trento as an interpreter for the Moroccan ex-ministry of culture. It was also my first time making consecutive interpretations, and it was amazing! The job required a high level of concentration and flexibility in jumping from one language to another. So, the pressure was constantly high, but it was a real challenge!

6. What’s your greatest fear?

Dentists!

7. Tell us something that might surprise us about you.

I order my wardrobe chromatically. From white to black, having cold tones and warm tones, and so on, I know it’s crazy, buuut…

8. What’s something interesting you learned recently?

The difference between moisturizer and hydrator; the first one has oil-based ingredients while the second one is made of humectants.

Although, they serve the same purpose (i.e., better-hydrated skin). Both just work differently. If your skin is dry, it needs oil, and thus, you should use a moisturizer. Whereas, if it is dehydrated, you need to use a hydrator because it lacks water. Take care of your skin!

9. Where is the best place you’ve traveled to? Why?

Santiago de Compostela (Spain). I’ve been working there in the tourist office where I met many people from all over the world. Plus, I practiced different languages and had delicious food, and there was amazing weather.

10. What would you do (career-wise) if you were not in this current job?

I’d be abroad doing either a Ph.D. in the field of Applied Linguistics or working with refugees and asylum seekers as an interpreter/translator.

11. Why did the chicken cross the road?

To avoid playing foosball against our Chief Technology Officer, Giovanni Gaglione!

Bonus: What’s your favorite GIF that you probably share often among your friends?
